Launched on October 29, 2013, VIDI is managed by Vident Asset Management, a registered investment adviser headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, which serves as the fund's investment adviser and sponsor of the underlying index; the firm, formed in December 2016 and SEC-registered since January 2019, also provides sub-advisory services to third-party ETFs, collective investment trusts, and other pooled vehicles targeting individuals, investment companies, and charitable organizations.
In recent developments, Vident Asset Management completed its acquisition by entrepreneur Casey Crawford in July 2023, accompanied by a significant growth equity investment to support expansion in asset management, sub-advisory, index research, and portfolio design services; the firm marked its 10th anniversary in August 2023 under the new ownership structure while retaining its full leadership team. In November 2024, Vident partnered with Brown Advisory as sub-adviser for the launch of the Brown Advisory Flexible Equity ETF (BAFE), converting separately managed accounts into the ETF via a 351 transaction and managing approximately $10.4 billion in total assets as of October 2024 across its proprietary and sub-advised strategies.
