Business
The Waterbase Limited The Waterbase Limited engages in the manufacture and export of shrimp feed, processing of shrimp products, and related aquaculture activities in India. Incorporated in 1987 and promoted by the Karam Chand Thapar Group, the company maintains its registered office in Ananthapuram Village, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, and corporate office in Chennai, Tamil Nadu; it operates production facilities including a shrimp feed mill with 110,000 MT annual capacity and a processing plant with 5,000 MT capacity, holding certifications such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, USFDA, EU approval, HACCP, BAP, BRC, FSSAI, and Halal. Core products encompass shrimp feeds under brands including Bay White and Bay White Enriched for Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), Tiger Bay XL for Tiger shrimp and high-density Vannamei farming, and Magnum for Scampi (Macrobrachium rosenbergii); the firm also offers Baylife range of antibiotic-free farmcare products such as mineral supplements, adsorbents, sanitizers, and feed supplements; additionally, it processes shrimp from captive farms into IQF, block frozen, and cooked forms for export to markets including the United States, Europe, Japan, China, Canada, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Middle East. The company serves shrimp farmers, dealers, and international buyers through its integrated value chain spanning hatcheries, feed, farming, processing, and exports, with a strong emphasis on research and development supported by international nutritionists and model ponds in Nellore for testing inputs to optimize food conversion ratios across extensive, modified-extensive, and intensive farming techniques. Recent strategic shifts include a comprehensive renovation and modernization of the processing plant in Q4 FY22-23 to restart export operations after a hiatus since 2007, achieving 138 container shipments in FY23-24 at 40% capacity utilization while targeting further scaling over the next three to four years; the firm realigned its feed business by concentrating on Andhra Pradesh via cash sales, appointing new channel partners with incentives, establishing depots in Krishna, East Godavari, and West Godavari regions, and launching two new sustainable farmcare products; these initiatives drove an 11.6% revenue increase to Rs.342 crore in FY23-24 amid market challenges like oversupply from Ecuador and price volatility, alongside ongoing sustainability efforts such as energy-efficient manufacturing, waste management, and CSR through the Kashvi Programme for educating school drop-out girls and women.
