Business
The Weir Group PLC (WEIR.L) is a global industrial engineering company that designs, manufactures and services highly engineered equipment, wear-resistant components and processing solutions primarily for the mining industry. The company operates through two main divisions, Minerals and ESCO, offering a comprehensive portfolio of products including slurry pumps such as the Warman brand, hydrocyclones, valves, wear parts and ground engaging tools (GET) under ESCO; crushers, screens, feeders, thickeners and tailings management systems; mine planning and control software via recent digital acquisitions; field services, aftermarket spares, equipment attachments and attachments for processing equipment; and original equipment manufacturing for minerals handling across iron ore, copper, gold and phosphate sectors. Founded in 1871 and headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland, at 16 North Anderson Drive, the company maintains operations in over 70 countries with manufacturing sites, foundries and service centers worldwide, employing more than 12,500 people and generating approximately £2.2 billion in annual sales. Recent strategic developments include the £657 million acquisition of Micromine in early 2025 to bolster mining software capabilities and digital solutions; the £150 million purchase of Townley Mining Equipment in August 2025 to expand phosphate market exposure and North American foundry capacity; the announced acquisition of Fast2Mine in Q3 2025 to enhance Latin American digital presence within the ESCO division; completion of a joint venture with Olayan Saudi Holding Company unveiled at the Future Minerals Forum; and ongoing Performance Excellence initiatives targeting £80 million in absolute savings by 2026, alongside £50 million annual R&D investment focused on sustainability, efficiency and intelligent automation.
