Business
Western Energy Services Corp. is a Calgary-based oilfield services company that provides contract drilling services in Canada and the United States and production services in Canada. Founded in 1996 and headquartered at 1700, 215 - 9th Avenue SW, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the company operates through two main segments: Contract Drilling, encompassing Horizon Drilling in Canada and Stoneham Drilling Corporation in the United States with a fleet of approximately 41 drilling rigs equipped for complex horizontal wells including features such as AC power, top drives, dual fuel capability, automated pipe handling, and Range III tubulars; and Production Services, comprising Eagle Well Servicing with around 62 well servicing rigs for maintenance and related operations and Aero Rental Services offering oilfield rental equipment. Western serves crude oil and natural gas exploration and production companies primarily in Western Canada and select U.S. basins, positioning it as the fourth largest drilling contractor in Canada. Recent developments include the extension of its second lien term loan facility maturity from May 2026 to May 2027 with Alberta Investment Management Corporation in January 2025, enabling voluntary prepayments without premiums and enhancing financial flexibility alongside aligned credit facility extensions; announcement of a $20 million 2025 capital budget comprising $18 million in maintenance capital and $2 million in expansion capital focused on rig fleet upgrades; leadership changes with the appointment of Gavin Lane as President and CEO in May 2025 and Orson Ross as Chief Financial Officer in August 2025; and a business relationship established with Infinity Metis Corp. through Eagle Well Servicing in 2023.
