Business
Invesco S&P SmallCap Momentum ETF (XSMO) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance of the S&P SmallCap 600 Momentum Index by investing at least 90% of its total assets in the securities comprising the index; the index consists of approximately 120 small-cap U.S. stocks from the S&P SmallCap 600 Index selected based on the highest momentum scores, which measure recent upward price movements relative to other eligible securities, with holdings weighted by a combination of market capitalization and momentum and reconstituted semi-annually. The fund provides exposure to small-cap equities across diversified sectors including industrials (31.47%), financials (17.71%), consumer discretionary (15.16%), and information technology (14.68%), targeting investors seeking momentum-driven strategies in the U.S. small-cap market; it distributes ordinary income quarterly, with recent payouts including $0.12153 per share in September 2025 and $0.19583 per share in March 2025. Launched on March 3, 2005 and domiciled in the United States, XSMO is issued and managed by Invesco Capital Management LLC, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with global operations through Invesco Ltd. The fund has historically outperformed the S&P SmallCap 600 Index, delivering a 5-year NAV return of 13.87% as of September 30, 2025 compared to 12.94% for the benchmark, supported by a concentrated portfolio of around 118-120 holdings and a turnover rate reflecting semi-annual rebalances. In recent years, XSMO has seen multiple index methodology transitions, including adoption of the current S&P SmallCap 600 Momentum Index on June 21, 2019 following prior benchmarks such as the Russell 2000 Pure Growth Index (May 2015-June 2019) and RAFI Fundamental Small Growth Index (June 2011-May 2015), alongside routine semi-annual portfolio reconstitutions that have led to significant top holdings rotations, such as shifts among consumer cyclical, technology, and industrial names like Rocket Cos Inc (4.55%), Sterling Infrastructure Inc (4.00%), and InterDigital Inc (3.44%) as of October 2025.
