Business
Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad is a leading Islamic bank in Malaysia primarily engaged in providing Shariah-compliant banking and financial services. Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, the bank offers a comprehensive suite of products including term deposits; savings, current, and investment accounts such as Al-Awfar, iGain, and Wafiyah Investment Account; personal, home, education, and vehicle financing; debit and credit cards; business investment and SME financing solutions; digital banking services including the BIMB Mobile and BIMB Web platforms; as well as treasury, trade operations, and wealth management services. It also provides specialized Islamic finance products such as Sukuk Murabahah, Ar-Rahnu pawn broking, and zakat management services. Bank Islam focuses on serving retail, corporate, and SME customers across Malaysia. In the past 1-2 years, Bank Islam has undergone significant developments, including operational transformations to enhance resilience and customer service, the issuance of multiple tranches of Sukuk Murabahah totaling several hundred million ringgit, and a key leadership restructuring with appointments to its Board and Shariah Supervisory Council. The bank recently decommissioned its legacy "Go by Bank Islam" mobile app, transitioning customers to the newer BIMB Mobile and BIMB Web platforms to improve digital banking experience. It continues to expand its financial relief and SME support programs while embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into its operations. Bank Islam also experienced regulatory scrutiny resulting in monetary penalties for service disruptions and anti-money laundering compliance issues, which it has been addressing as part of ongoing improvements. The bank remains focused on advancing sustainable growth through its LEAP25 five-year strategic roadmap aimed at digitalization, customer centricity, and community empowerment. Overall, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad operates as Malaysia’s first full-fledged pure-play Islamic financial institution, offering a wide range of Islamic banking products and services in the retail, corporate, and institutional sectors while maintaining strong adherence to Shariah principles and expanding its footprint through innovation and strategic initiatives in the Malaysian financial industry.
