- Borouge PLC is a United Arab Emirates-based specialty petrochemicals company that manufactures and markets differentiated polyolefin solutions for the infrastructure, energy, packaging, agriculture, mobility, and healthcare industries. Established in 1998 as a strategic joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Austria-based Borealis AG, the company operates one of the world's largest integrated polyolefin production complexes in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Abu Dhabi, and maintains its corporate headquarters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The company's shares are publicly traded on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange under the ticker symbol BOROUGE.
The company's core product portfolio encompasses advanced polyethylene and polypropylene solutions manufactured using proprietary Borstar bimodal and Borlink technologies, alongside sustainable and circular polymer grades. Its product and service offerings comprise polyethylene (PE) solutions, including high-density polyethylene (HDPE), medium-density polyethylene (MDPE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) engineered for municipal water, gas, and industrial piping networks, extra-high voltage power and telecommunication cable insulation, agricultural greenhouse films, and rigid and flexible packaging; polypropylene (PP) solutions, encompassing homopolymers, random copolymers, and heterophasic impact copolymers designed for automotive interior and exterior components, lightweight vehicle parts, consumer appliances, medical devices, and thin-wall packaging; sustainable material solutions marketed under the Borcycle and Bornewables brands, providing post-consumer mechanically recycled polyolefins and renewable-feedstock-based polymers for circular packaging and industrial applications; and specialty engineering compounds produced through its compounding plant in Shanghai, China, tailored to automotive and consumer electronics manufacturers. Borouge supplies industrial converters, brand owners, utilities, and original equipment manufacturers across more than 50 countries in the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, the Indian Subcontinent, Africa, and Europe.
In recent corporate and operational developments, Borouge is advancing the construction of its 6.2 billion dollar Borouge 4 expansion facility in Ruwais, which will expand its total annual polyolefin production capacity from 5 million tonnes to 6.4 million tonnes. The company is also a focal entity in ongoing strategic consolidation discussions between majority shareholders ADNOC and OMV regarding the proposed combination of Borouge and Borealis into an enlarged, globally integrated polyolefins platform. Additionally, Borouge has broadened its sustainable product offerings through regional partnerships with certified mechanical recyclers in Asia and the Middle East to co-develop commercial-grade Borcycle resins, while deploying artificial intelligence-driven plant optimization and digital supply chain systems across its manufacturing and logistics network to enhance operational efficiency and lower carbon intensity.
