- The National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (P.J.S.C.), trading as RAKBANK, is a United Arab Emirates-based commercial banking institution providing a comprehensive suite of conventional and Islamic banking products and financial services to retail consumers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), commercial entities, and institutional clients across the UAE. Founded in 1976 and headquartered in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, the bank operates under a public joint-stock structure listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, with the Government of Ras Al Khaimah holding a significant ownership stake.
RAKBANK operates through five core business divisions: Retail Banking, Business Banking, Wholesale Banking, Treasury, and Islamic Banking (RAKIslamic). The bank offers an extensive portfolio of financial products and services, including deposit and liquidity products, encompassing current accounts, savings accounts, call deposits, and fixed-term deposits; consumer finance solutions, encompassing personal loans, residential mortgages, auto loans, and debt consolidation facilities; card products, encompassing credit cards, debit cards, prepaid cards, and merchant loyalty cards; SME and commercial banking facilities, encompassing business current accounts, working capital credit facilities, commercial vehicle and equipment loans, trade finance instruments, and supply chain financing; wholesale and institutional banking, encompassing syndicated loans, structured finance, project financing, liquidity management, and escrow management services; treasury and financial market operations, encompassing foreign exchange spot and forward contracts, interest rate derivatives, money market deposits, and institutional investment solutions; comprehensive bancassurance policies, encompassing life, general, motor, and medical insurance underwritten via its subsidiary Ras Al Khaimah National Insurance Company (RAK Insurance); and Sharia-compliant Islamic banking alternatives across all retail and commercial product lines, structured under Murabaha, Ijarah, Mudarabah, and Wakala frameworks.
In recent developments, RAKBANK has undertaken significant strategic transformations, product modernizations, and digital asset expansions. In 2026, the bank finalized the strategic transfer of its merchant acquiring operations to Network International following Central Bank of the UAE regulatory authorization, allowing RAKBANK to optimize its operating model while delivering modernized payment solutions to business clients. Expanding into digital assets and fintech, RAKBANK received in-principle approval from the Central Bank of the UAE in 2026 to issue an AED-backed payment token (stablecoin), following its launch of an integrated digital asset brokerage feature within its mobile banking platform in 2025. The institution has also embedded artificial intelligence across customer service and risk infrastructure through the launch of its Rai digital banking assistant, automated fraud prevention engines, and enhanced sanctions screening systems. Furthermore, RAKBANK renewed a long-term strategic alliance with Mastercard to accelerate embedded commerce and digital transaction capabilities, partnered with Faturalab to digitalize GCC supply chain finance workflows, and signed a collaboration agreement with the Emirates Growth Fund to enhance specialized credit accessibility for domestic manufacturing and SME enterprises.
