- Sharjah Islamic Bank PJSC is a United Arab Emirates-based financial institution that provides Sharia-compliant retail, corporate, government, treasury, and investment banking solutions, alongside real estate, securities brokerage, and hospitality management services. Established in 1975 as the National Bank of Sharjah and converted into a full-fledged Islamic commercial bank in 2002, the bank is headquartered in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, and operates under the substantial ownership of the Government of Sharjah through entities such as Sharjah Asset Management LLC and the Sharjah Social Security Fund. The bank organizes its commercial activities across four primary business segments: Retail Banking; Government and Corporate Banking; Investment and Treasury; and Hospitality, Brokerage, and Real Estate.
The bank offers an extensive portfolio of Islamic banking products and financial services across consumer, commercial, and institutional markets. Its retail banking offerings include Sharia-compliant current, savings, and call accounts; term and Wakalah investment deposits; Murabaha-, Ijarah-, and Istisna-based financing facilities for personal needs, auto purchases, and residential real estate; debit, credit, and prepaid payment cards; bancassurance; and digital banking platforms. Its corporate and institutional banking division delivers working capital financing, syndicated loans, structured and bridge financing, contract and project financing, asset-backed real estate facilities, cash management services, and trade finance solutions, including letters of credit and letters of guarantee. The investment and treasury segment engages in liquidity and asset-liability management, money market operations, foreign exchange hedging, sukuk trading, and structured investment solutions. Through its wholly owned subsidiaries, the institution provides property development, real estate brokerage, and asset management via ASAS Real Estate; resort and hotel asset management via Sharjah National Hotels; and Islamic equity brokerage and trading execution via Sharjah Islamic Financial Services.
In recent developments, Sharjah Islamic Bank has accelerated its strategic expansion and digital modernization under its 2023–2026 multi-year strategic roadmap, aligned with the Central Bank of the UAE's Financial Infrastructure Transformation programme. The bank launched SIB Pay, an integrated omni-channel digital payment platform providing corporate, merchant, and government clients with Soft POS technology, QR-code payment processing, digital payment gateways, and Pay-by-Link solutions, followed by strategic integration into the UAE's national domestic card scheme, Jaywan, across card issuance and merchant acceptance networks. To support balance sheet expansion and capital adequacy, the bank completed an oversubscribed AED 2.59 billion capital increase via a rights issue, alongside issuing multiple benchmark USD 500 million senior unsecured and Additional Tier 1 sukuk tranches listed on Nasdaq Dubai and Euronext Dublin. The bank has also continued expanding its branch and digital touchpoint network across the United Arab Emirates, including new strategic branch facilities in Ras Al Khaimah.
