- Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) is an integrated energy and water utilities company operating across the power generation, water desalination, transmission and distribution, wastewater management, and oil and gas sectors. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the company operates as a key infrastructure subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company PJSC (ADQ). TAQA manages operations structured across four core business segments: Transmission and Distribution; Generation; Water Solutions; and Oil and Gas. The company provides a comprehensive portfolio of utility, energy, and environmental services, comprising the generation of conventional electricity from natural gas-fired and thermal power plants; generation of clean and renewable electricity from solar photovoltaic (PV) installations and onshore and offshore wind farms; production of potable water utilizing multi-stage flash (MSF), multi-effect distillation (MED), and high-efficiency seawater reverse osmosis (RO) desalination technologies; bulk transmission of high-voltage electric power and potable water across long-distance grid networks via Abu Dhabi Transmission and Despatch Company (TRANSCO); retail electricity and potable water distribution, customer supply, and advanced metering infrastructure services to residential, commercial, and industrial end-users; collection, treatment, and purification of municipal and industrial wastewater alongside the distribution of high-quality recycled water for agricultural, landscaping, and industrial cooling applications via TAQA Water Solutions; exploration, development, and production of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGLs); operation of underground natural gas storage facilities; and offshore and onshore pipeline transportation infrastructure. Geographically, TAQA owns and operates generation, utility network, and exploration assets across the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Morocco, Ghana, India, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Canada. In recent major developments, TAQA has accelerated its strategic expansion in regulated utilities, clean energy, and international water security infrastructure. The company completed the full acquisition and integration of Sustainable Water Solutions Holding Company (SWS Holding) to establish TAQA Water Solutions, creating an integrated water management and wastewater recycling platform. In addition, TAQA executed a comprehensive corporate restructuring of its domestic utility operations, consolidating its operating units Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) and Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC) under a unified customer-facing brand, TAQA Distribution. Expanding its clean energy portfolio, TAQA maintains a principal stake in renewable energy company Masdar alongside ADNOC and Mubadala, supporting utility-scale international clean energy expansions across Europe, the Americas, and Central Asia. Furthermore, TAQA reached key milestones on major infrastructure projects, including financial close on the Mirfa 2 and Shuweihat 4 reverse osmosis desalination plants, development of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission network to decarbonize ADNOC offshore production operations, and cornerstone strategic investments in inter-regional clean energy transmission initiatives such as the Xlinks Morocco-UK power project.
