Business
Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company S.A. operates as Greece's largest enterprise in integrated water management, supplying and treating water, and managing wastewater across the broader Attica region. The company is responsible for the planning, construction, installation, operation, upkeep, expansion, and renovation of its extensive water and sewerage infrastructure. It manages a water distribution network spanning approximately 14,000 kilometers and oversees four water treatment facilities with a substantial daily processing capacity. Additionally, it maintains a sewerage network of roughly 9,500 kilometers and operates three primary wastewater treatment centers, including the advanced Psyttalia plant, one of the largest globally. Beyond its core services, the company actively participates in irrigation and rainwater harvesting initiatives. Embracing sustainable practices, it generates electricity from various sources such as hydropower, solar installations, biogas, and natural gas. Established in 1980 and headquartered in Athens, Greece, Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company S.A. is a subsidiary of Hellenic Corporation of Assets & Participations S.A., with a majority stake held by the Greek state. The company aims to achieve zero carbon water by 2030 and is undertaking a €2.5 billion investment program to modernize and enhance resilience amid increasing water scarcity challenges.
