Air Lease Corporation (NYSE: AL; AL-PA) is a leading global aircraft leasing company that purchases new commercial aircraft directly from manufacturers including Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and ATR and leases them to airlines worldwide on long-term net operating leases, which require lessees to cover maintenance, insurance, taxes and other operating expenses; the company offers operating leases, fleet management services, aircraft sales and trading, maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) services through its subsidiary Air Lease Technical Services, and customized financing solutions such as sale-leasebacks; its fleet, valued at approximately $29.1 billion as of late 2025, consists primarily of young fuel-efficient narrowbody and widebody jets leased to major carriers, low-cost carriers and regional airlines across the Asia Pacific, Europe, the Americas and other regions. Founded in 2010 by industry veteran Steven F. Udvar-Házy and headquartered in Los Angeles, California, Air Lease Corporation maintains a substantial forward order book of roughly 450 aircraft and reports strong lease placement rates, with 100% of deliveries placed through 2026 and 87% through 2027. In September 2025, the company entered into a definitive merger agreement with a consortium led by Sumitomo Corporation and SMBC Aviation Capital, alongside Apollo and Brookfield, under which it will be acquired in a $7.4 billion all-cash transaction at $65 per share and renamed Sumisho Air Lease Corporation, an Ireland-based entity with SMBC Aviation Capital servicing the portfolio, creating one of the world's largest aircraft lessors amid ongoing industry consolidation.
