Business
Africa Opportunity Fund Limited (AOF.L) is a closed-end investment company incorporated in the Cayman Islands with registered offices in George Town and listed on the Specialist Fund Market of the London Stock Exchange. Founded in 2007, the company seeks capital growth and income through value, arbitrage, and special situations investments across Africa, targeting equity, debt, real estate interests, quasi-equity instruments, and debt issued by African sovereign states and government entities in sectors including financial services, utilities, real estate, consumer finance, and beverages. Its portfolio spans countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Tanzania; investments are channeled through its wholly-owned subsidiary Africa Opportunity Fund L.P., with Africa Opportunity Partners LLC serving as investment manager under an amended agreement effective June 2024. In July 2024, the fund adopted a new investment policy emphasizing hard currency-revenue generating companies, productivity-enhancing businesses, and long-term domestic African financial capital builders; its net asset value rose 39% to $1.20 per share for the year ended December 31, 2024, buoyed by strong performances in Kenya and other holdings like Enterprise Group Ltd in Ghana, Sand Tech Holdings (formerly African Leadership International, which spun out its education division in 2024), Sonatel, Copperbelt Energy Corp, and First Mutual Properties Ltd in Zimbabwe.
