- Morien Resources Corp. is a Canadian mining development company founded in 2012 and headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The company specializes in the identification and acquisition of mineral interests and projects, primarily operating in Nova Scotia. Morien holds key royalty interests including a gross production royalty on coal sales from the Donkin Coal Mine in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, owned by Kameron Collieries ULC, and a royalty on the sale of crushed stone from the permitted Black Point Aggregate Project in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia. Its main products and services center on royalties derived from coal and aggregates, focusing on long-life, export-oriented resource development.
Recently, Morien Resources has advanced the Lazy Head Aggregate Project in Nova Scotia through a strategic partnership established in 2024 with Carver Companies, LLC, a private U.S.-based producer and distributor of construction aggregates. This partnership aims to develop a high-quality aggregate quarry and associated marine terminal along Chedabucto Bay, designed to serve the U.S. East Coast aggregate market. The collaboration supports Morien's capital-efficient, partner-driven business model that reimburses its expenses and awards it milestone and production royalties. The project is poised to create approximately 75 local jobs and sustain long-term operations, with community benefit-sharing frameworks to distribute economic and social value across the Municipality District of Guysborough region. This recent initiative aligns with Morien's strategic shift to build a diversified royalty portfolio by leveraging Atlantic Canada's premium aggregate resources and regional expertise. Additionally, Morien continues to engage with stakeholders regarding the potential restart of operations at the Donkin Mine and has seen operational changes including the idling of the Donkin Mine since late 2023.
