Business
Global X MSCI Argentina ETF (ARGT) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to provide investment results corresponding generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the MSCI All Argentina 25/50 Index. The fund invests at least 80% of its total assets in securities of the underlying index and American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) and Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs) based on those securities, as well as in companies economically tied to Argentina; it employs a passive, replication or representative sampling strategy to track the index, which targets a minimum of 25 securities and 20 issuers from the broad Argentina equity universe, including firms headquartered or listed in Argentina with majority operations there. Top holdings include MercadoLibre Inc. (approximately 22-25% weight), YPF S.A. ADR, Grupo Financiero Galicia ADR, SSR Mining Inc., Vista Energy S.A.B. de C.V., Pampa Energia S.A. ADR, Embotelladora Andina S.A., and Banco Macro S.A. ADR, spanning sectors such as consumer discretionary (around 28-34%), energy (17-19%), financials (14-17%), materials (10-12%), utilities (8-11%), and consumer staples (7-9%). Launched on March 2, 2011, and listed on NYSE Arca under ticker ARGT, the fund is managed by Global X Management Company LLC, headquartered in New York, with an expense ratio of 0.59% and net assets exceeding $620 million as of late 2025. ARGT provides targeted exposure to large- and mid-cap Argentine-linked equities for investors seeking access to the country's equity markets, which have shown volatility amid economic reforms; the fund is non-diversified and concentrates investments to match the index's sector weights. It distributes dividends semi-annually, with a trailing twelve-month yield of about 1.16%, and has delivered strong historical performance, including 63.25% total return in 2024 and average annual returns of 27.19% over five years and 17.22% over ten years as of December 31, 2024. In recent developments, ARGT has benefited from Argentina's macroeconomic stabilization under President Javier Milei, including fiscal surpluses, disinflation, currency control easing, and a $20 billion IMF deal with immediate $12 billion availability, alongside U.S. support discussions potentially reaching $20 billion in aid announced by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Political events, such as Milei's party performance in midterm and provincial elections, a court ban on former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, and market reactions to policy reforms like tax cuts and deregulation, have driven significant rallies, with the ETF surging over 60% in 2024 and record inflows in 2025 amid optimism for GDP growth projected at 8.5% in Q3 2024. The fund maintained a portfolio turnover of 29.63% in the most recent fiscal year, with no major structural changes like reindexing or mergers reported, though its prospectus was updated effective March 1, 2025.
