Business
Melon SA is a Chile-based industrial company primarily engaged in the manufacturing, processing, and commercialization of cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and advanced construction materials. Founded in 1908 and headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the company operates as a key building materials subsidiary of Peru-based conglomerate Grupo Breca, serving infrastructure, mining, commercial, and residential building markets across Chile. The company organizes its operations into specialized business units: Melón Cementos, Melón Hormigones, Melón Áridos, Melón Morteros, and Melón Minería. Its product and service portfolio includes Portland, pozzolanic, blended hydraulic, and high-strength structural cements supplied in bags and bulk under the Melón brand; customized ready-mix concrete formulations, including self-compacting, high-durability, fiber-reinforced, rapid-setting, architectural, and shotcrete mixes; natural and crushed aggregates, including washed sands, gravel, crushed rock, and base materials extracted from proprietary quarries; dry-mix industrial mortars, masonry binders, structural repair mortars, tile adhesives, grouts, and technical surface coatings; and dedicated mining support solutions, encompassing on-site batching plants, underground mine backfill binders, pneumatic transport systems, and specialized laboratory testing services. The company operates an extensive nationwide infrastructure consisting of clinker and cement production plants, grinding facilities, automated ready-mix concrete batching terminals, aggregate extraction sites, and distribution depots spanning central, northern, and southern Chile. In recent developments, Melon SA has accelerated its decarbonization roadmap by launching low-carbon, eco-efficient blended cement lines with reduced clinker factors and expanding alternative fuel co-processing in its industrial kilns to lower greenhouse gas emissions. The company has also strengthened its regional footprint through grinding plant capacity expansions and modernization projects in southern Chile, deployed digital logistics and dispatch platforms with real-time fleet telemetry for streamlined contractor ordering, and broadened its strategic supply agreements for major mining and civil infrastructure projects throughout the country.
