In recent developments, BHP formed a 50/50 joint venture with Lundin Mining in early 2025 to develop the Filo del Sol and Josemaria copper projects in Argentina's Vicuna district, contributing US$690 million in cash consideration for the Josemaria asset while acquiring a stake in Filo; the company advanced its copper growth pipeline, including expansions at Escondida, and continued progress on the Jansen potash project toward first production; additionally, BHP abandoned its proposed acquisition of Anglo American in 2024 amid regulatory hurdles, redirecting focus to organic growth initiatives in copper and potash while enhancing capital discipline across its portfolio.
