- Iskenderun Demir ve Celik AS (Isdemir), a subsidiary of Eregli Demir ve Celik Fabrikalari TAS (Erdemir Group) under OYAK Mining Metallurgy, is a Turkey-based integrated iron and steel manufacturing company. Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Iskenderun, Hatay, the company is Turkey's only integrated facility capable of producing both flat and long steel products. The company manufactures, processes, and distributes a wide array of steel products for automotive, construction, shipbuilding, pipe and tube manufacturing, energy, packaging, and general manufacturing industries across domestic and international markets.
The company operates through integrated steelmaking facilities comprising coke plants, blast furnaces, basic oxygen furnace steelmaking shops, continuous casting units, and rolling mills. Its core product portfolio includes flat steel products, consisting of hot-rolled coils, hot-rolled sheets, heavy steel plates, and continuously cast slabs; long steel products, consisting of high-carbon, medium-carbon, and low-carbon wire rods, cold-heading wire rods, tyre cord quality wire rods, and square steel billets; by-products and industrial chemicals, including granulated blast furnace slag, crude coal tar, ammonium sulfate, crude benzol, and metallurgical coke; and industrial gases, such as liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid argon. In addition, the company provides maritime logistics, cargo handling, and warehousing services through its dedicated deep-water port terminal located in the Iskenderun Bay.
In recent developments, Iskenderun Demir ve Celik AS is executing a comprehensive multi-billion-dollar green transformation and decarbonization roadmap in alignment with the Erdemir Group Net Zero 2050 targets. The company has initiated large-scale capital expenditure projects to reduce its carbon footprint, including investments in off-site and on-site solar power plants (GES) for self-consumption, waste heat recovery systems, and energy efficiency retrofits designed to meet European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) standards. Operationally, following the successful repair and modernization of its facilities post-2023 seismic events, Isdemir has advanced key facility upgrades, including the rebuilding of its primary blast furnaces, the installation of advanced vacuum degassing facilities to broaden its high-grade steel product mix, and the modernization of its coke oven batteries and port infrastructure to expand export capacity and operational efficiency.
