Business
Vanguard Total International Bond Index Fund (BNDX) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that seeks to track the performance of the Bloomberg Global Aggregate ex-USD Float Adjusted RIC Capped Index, providing investors with broad exposure to investment-grade bonds issued outside the United States. The fund holds a diversified portfolio of non-USD denominated fixed income securities, including sovereign government bonds (typically 70%-80% of assets, predominantly AA-rated or better), supranational bonds, corporate debt (around 12%-15%), and agency bonds; all positions are hedged to USD to mitigate currency risk for U.S. investors. Eligible securities must have at least one year to maturity, meet local currency size requirements, and adhere to issuer weight caps to limit concentration risk, with market-value weighting favoring large, liquid issuers primarily from Europe, Japan, and other developed markets. Launched on May 31, 2013, and listed on Nasdaq, BNDX is managed passively by The Vanguard Group, Inc., a Malvern, Pennsylvania-based investment adviser founded in 1975 with approximately $11 trillion in global assets under management as of early 2025. The ETF targets individual and institutional investors seeking international fixed income diversification within taxable bond portfolios, complementing U.S.-focused bond funds; as of late 2025, it manages over $70 billion in assets with a low expense ratio reflective of Vanguard's client-owned structure. In recent years, Vanguard has expanded its fixed income offerings around BNDX, launching the actively managed Vanguard Short Duration Bond ETF (VSDB) in April 2025, three new U.S. Treasury UCITS ETFs in Europe during 2025 (covering 1-3, 3-7, and 7-10 year durations), the Vanguard Multi-Sector Income Bond ETF (VGMS) in mid-2025, and dynamic asset allocation fixed income model portfolios in October 2025 to enhance advisor tools. These developments reflect Vanguard's strategic focus on broadening active and index-based fixed income strategies amid strong demand, while maintaining tight tracking for BNDX through specialized ETF, data, and international teams, including quantitative optimization tools. The fund continues monthly distributions, with a recent ex-dividend declaration of $0.09686 per share in December 2025 yielding around 3.11% SEC yield.
