Business
Banpu Public Company Limited (BNPJY), an integrated energy solutions provider, engages in coal mining, natural gas production, power generation, and renewable energy development across Asia-Pacific and the United States. The company operates coal projects in Indonesia, China, Australia, and Mongolia; natural gas projects in the United States through its NYSE-listed subsidiary BKV Corporation; thermal power plants in Thailand, Lao PDR, and China; and renewable energy power plants in Japan, China, and Vietnam; it also offers solar rooftop and installation solutions for industries, energy storage systems including battery energy storage (BESS), electric vehicle and fleet management services, customized energy management consultations, smart clean energy ecosystems, coal trading, and research and development in power and renewables. Banpu NEXT, its net zero solutions arm, integrates AI-driven digital platforms for energy efficiency, EV fleets, and 24/7 after-sales support. Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, the company conducts business in 10 countries including Thailand, Indonesia, China, Australia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Japan, the United States, and Vietnam, targeting industrial, commercial, and utility customers with a focus on the energy trilemma of reliability, affordability, and sustainability. In late 2025, Banpu's board approved a major restructuring under its Energy Symphonics strategy, including the amalgamation with Banpu Power Public Company Limited (BPP) into a new entity expected to list on the Stock Exchange of Thailand by Q3 2026, a general offer to buy back BPP shares, and consolidation of U.S. gas-fired power assets under BKV to form a closed-loop gas strategy integrating production, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), alongside Power+ as a pure-play platform for conventional and new energy, Next-Gen Mining with AI enhancements and diversification into strategic minerals like nickel via investment in PT Adhi Kartiko Pratama Tbk, and a Future Tech pillar for data centers and digital energy solutions; additional recent developments encompass BKV's acquisition of Bedrock Production LLC in September 2025 boosting Barnett Shale output by 108 MMcfe/d and reserves by 1 Tcfe, CCUS joint ventures like the East Texas project targeting 70,000 tons of CO2 capture annually from 2027, BESS portfolio expansion in Australia, and a partnership with enspired for AI-optimized energy trading and BESS in Japan. This realignment aims to enhance governance efficiency, unlock asset value, support AI-driven power demand, and advance 2030 targets of 1.5x EBITDA growth, coal earnings below 50% of EBITDA, and over 20% Scope 1 and 2 emissions reductions en route to Net Zero by 2050.
