Established in 1970 and headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, the company operates manufacturing facilities in Kanchanbagh (Hyderabad), Bhanur (Telangana), and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), with plans for new units in Ibrahimpatnam (Telangana) and Amravati (Maharashtra); it serves primarily the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force while pursuing exports and international collaborations. BDL's core products and services encompass surface-to-air missiles including Akash and Quick Reaction SAM; air-to-air missiles such as Astra Mk-I; anti-tank guided missiles like Milan-2T, Konkurs-M, Invar, and Nag; underwater weapons comprising light and heavyweight torpedoes, submarine-fired decoys, and anti-submarine warfare suites; air-to-surface weapons such as Helina and Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon; countermeasures dispensing systems; launchers and test equipment; multi-influencer ground mines; and vertically launched short-range SAMs, complemented by comprehensive product life cycle support, refurbishment, and life extension services for vintage systems. In recent developments, BDL secured major contracts including a Rs 2,971 crore order for Astra Mk-I Beyond Visual Range missiles and a Rs 2,095.7 crore deal for Invar anti-tank missiles for T-90 tanks in 2025; it signed a memorandum of understanding with PTC Industries for a joint venture to produce propulsion systems, guided bombs, and aero-engines for missiles and UAVs; formed a strategic partnership with Thales for Laser Beam Riding Man-Portable Air Defence systems to enhance Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives; and continues collaborations with DRDO on advanced technologies like hypersonic systems, high-energy weapons, AI-based threat detection, autonomous systems, drone weaponization, and anti-drone measures, alongside efforts to expand exports and indigenization through alliances with foreign OEMs and Indian institutes.
