Business
Bharat Immunologicals & Biologicals Corporation Limited (BIBCOL) is a Public Sector Undertaking of the Government of India specializing in the manufacturing and supply of oral polio vaccines (OPVs) and other immunizers. Established in 1989 and headquartered in Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh, BIBCOL's core product portfolio includes the trivalent and bivalent oral polio vaccines; dispersible zinc tablets branded as BIBZinC-20mg for diarrhea management; iron folic acid (IFA) tablets for iron deficiency anemia treatment; and diarrhea management kits combining zinc tablets and oral rehydration salts (ORS). The company also operates in the pharmaceutical segment producing low-calorie sweetener tablets and ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) products. In the last two years, BIBCOL has notably transitioned from the trivalent oral polio vaccine (tOPV) to the bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV), which has received WHO-GMP certification, aligning with global health standards. Additionally, the company has expanded its product range into nutritional therapeutics such as RUTF and diversified low-calorie food products to address malnutrition challenges. BIBCOL continues to focus on meeting national immunization program needs supported by its advanced vaccine formulation and manufacturing capabilities. The company has also been involved in partnerships and technology transfers, such as with Nutriset, for zinc supplement production in line with WHO recommendations. BIBCOL serves primarily the public health sector within India but contributes to global polio eradication efforts through its vaccine supplies. The company operates under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and maintains strong regulatory compliance with Indian and international pharmaceutical standards. Its strategic objective includes scaling vaccine production capacity and innovating in biologics and nutritional therapeutics to support immunization and public health initiatives nationwide. In summary, Bharat Immunologicals & Biologicals Corporation Limited manufactures oral polio vaccines; zinc and iron supplementation tablets; specialized diarrhea treatment kits; and therapeutic food products. It has recently shifted to bivalent OPV production certified by WHO-GMP, expanded nutritional therapeutic offerings, and strengthened public health immunization support across India from its Bulandshahar headquarters since its inception in 1989. These developments position BIBCOL as a key player in India's vaccine manufacturing and public health nutrition sectors.
