Business
Bulgartabac Holding AD is a Bulgaria-based investment holding company primarily engaged in the management, trade, and historic production of tobacco products, raw leaf processing, and diversified commercial operations. Founded in 1947 as the state tobacco monopoly and reorganized into a joint-stock holding structure in 1993, the company is headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria, and trades publicly on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BTH. The company operates across multiple industrial and commercial business segments, managing a portfolio of operating subsidiaries, financial investments, and real estate assets across domestic and international markets, primarily within Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Bulgartabac Holding AD provides products and services structured across core operational categories, which include: industrial processing, curing, conditioning, and commercial distribution of raw leaf tobacco varieties, including Oriental, Virginia, and Burley tobaccos; manufacture, packaging, and commercialization of finished tobacco products and cigarettes in standard, slims, and king-size dimensions; management and commercial licensing of proprietary and historic regional cigarette trademarks, including Victory, MM, GD, BT, Eva, Femina, Prestige, Rodopi, and Global; storage, bonded warehousing, freight logistics, and wholesale distribution solutions for fast-moving consumer goods; and corporate asset management, real estate development, treasury operations, and strategic holding investments across affiliated industrial and commercial entities. In recent years, Bulgartabac Holding AD has executed a significant strategic restructuring to transition from a specialized industrial tobacco manufacturer into a diversified holding and asset management enterprise. Following the strategic divestment of its primary global cigarette trademarks and core distribution networks to British American Tobacco for over 100 million euros, the company systematically curtailed direct manufacturing activities at historical production subsidiaries, including Sofia-BT AD and Blagoevgrad-BT AD. As part of its ongoing portfolio rationalization and corporate consolidation, the holding completed the divestiture of non-core retail and agro-industrial holdings, including consumer electronics retail chain Technomarket and dairy producer Lodis Invest. In its latest corporate and operational developments, the group has continued to optimize its real estate and liquid asset portfolio, alongside major equity ownership transitions, including the acquisition of a 24 percent equity stake by United Arab Emirates-based investment firm Monoceros Ltd from Liechtenstein-based Woodford Establishment. Bulgartabac Holding AD currently focuses on managing equity participations, commercial property redevelopment, and capital allocation across regional investment opportunities.
