Invesco BulletShares (R) 2022 Municipal Bond ETF (BSMM) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance, before fees and expenses, of the Invesco BulletShares USD Municipal Bond 2022 Index. The fund invests at least 80% of its total assets in a portfolio of U.S. dollar-denominated, investment-grade municipal bonds issued by U.S. states, state agencies, or local governments that have effective maturities in 2022; these bonds are primarily AMT-free and include holdings such as those from Cook County, Illinois, Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, and Metropolitan Transportation Authority, New York. BSMM is part of the Invesco Exchange-Traded Self-Indexed Fund Trust, sponsored by Invesco Ltd., a global investment management firm founded in 1935 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, with operations worldwide. The ETF, which launched on September 25, 2019, targets investors seeking tax-exempt income and defined maturity exposure in the municipal bond segment of the fixed-income market.
A key operational feature of BSMM and similar BulletShares ETFs is their target maturity structure, under which the fund rebalances monthly to maintain alignment with the index and terminates on or about December 15 of the designated year, distributing principal and any capital gains to shareholders; for BSMM, this liquidation occurred in late 2022 following the maturity of its underlying bonds. Post-maturity, trading activity ceased, with the ticker marked as delisted or inactive on major platforms, reflecting a standard lifecycle completion rather than distress. Invesco has since expanded its BulletShares municipal bond lineup, launching products like the Invesco BulletShares 2035 Municipal Bond ETF and continuing dividend distributions in siblings such as the 2025 and 2027 series through 2025. No major acquisitions, partnerships, funding rounds, or strategic shifts specific to BSMM were reported in the 2023-2025 period, as the fund's focus remained on its predefined maturity execution amid Invesco's broader ETF growth.
