- Celsia S.A. E.S.P. is a Colombian energy utility company engaged in electric power generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization, as well as the provision of distributed renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions. Founded in 1919 and headquartered in Medellín, Colombia, the company operates as the electricity and energy transition platform of infrastructure conglomerate Grupo Argos, which maintains a majority controlling interest. Celsia serves residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional markets with operational presence across Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Honduras.
The company organizes its core business activities across integrated power, renewable energy, and infrastructure segments, offering a portfolio that includes: conventional and clean electric power generation utilizing a diversified fleet of hydroelectric plants, thermal power stations, utility-scale solar photovoltaic farms, and wind facilities; electric power transmission and distribution services, operating extensive high- and medium-voltage electrical lines, substations, and regional distribution networks managed primarily through its operating subsidiary Empresa de Energía del Pacífico S.A. E.S.P. (EPSA); retail electricity commercialization, structured power purchase agreements (PPAs), and utility supply contracts for both regulated retail consumers and non-regulated industrial clients; distributed solar generation solutions, providing engineering, procurement, construction, operation, and financing for commercial and industrial rooftop and ground-mounted photovoltaic systems; utility-scale and behind-the-meter battery energy storage systems (BESS) utilizing lithium iron phosphate technology for grid stabilization, peak shaving, and backup reliability; energy efficiency and thermal services, including district cooling systems, cogeneration and thermal utilities, smart public and commercial lighting installations, and energy consulting; and electric mobility infrastructure alongside digital metering and energy management platforms.
In recent strategic developments, Celsia has advanced its EnergizarC corporate program to expand non-conventional renewable energy capacity, optimize capital allocation, and reduce corporate debt. In 2025, the company significantly expanded its renewable pipeline by acquiring a 675-megawatt portfolio of solar and wind development assets in Colombia from Mainstream Renewable Power, encompassing the Andromeda, Aries, and Pollux solar projects as well as the Neptuno and Sirius wind projects. Celsia also continues to expand C2 Energía, its 50/50 joint venture platform with Cubico Sustainable Investments, successfully commissioning multiple utility-scale solar farms throughout Colombia. Concurrently, the company streamlined its Central American operational footprint by divesting selected generation assets in Panama and Costa Rica to EnfraGen subsidiary Fontus Spain for 194 million USD, pivoting its regional focus toward distributed enterprise solar, asset management, and energy efficiency services. Furthermore, Celsia consolidated operational governance by expanding its equity ownership in EPSA to 61.3 percent, transferred its P.A. Laurel business unit to Atera Colombia S.A.S., established a dedicated energy efficiency solutions subsidiary, and initiated strategic capital structure enhancements.
