Business
ENGIE Energía Perú S.A. is an electric power generation, transmission, and energy commercialization company operating within the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) of Peru. The company operates through key business segments comprising power generation, electric transmission infrastructure, and energy trading. Its primary product and service offerings include: electricity generation utilizing a diversified technological matrix consisting of natural gas-fired thermal plants (including the Chilca 1 and Ilo generation complexes), hydroelectric power stations (including the Yuncán and Quitaracsa facilities), solar photovoltaic plants (such as Intipampa and Hanaqpampa), and onshore wind farms (such as Punta Lomitas, Duna, and Huambos); high-voltage electricity transmission lines, transformation substations, and grid interconnection services; power supply and commercialization under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) tailored for regulated distribution utilities as well as unregulated, large-scale industrial and mining consumers; battery energy storage systems (BESS) providing grid stabilization, frequency regulation, and backup capacity; and corporate decarbonization services, encompassing the issuance of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs), energy audit solutions, and clean energy transition advisory. Originally incorporated in 1996 as EGECEN S.A. and previously operating under the name EnerSur S.A., the company is headquartered in Lima, Peru, and functions as a subsidiary of the French multinational utility ENGIE S.A. through International Power S.A. In recent operational and strategic developments, ENGIE Energía Perú commissioned and expanded the 296 MW Punta Lomitas wind farm in the Ica region, marking the largest operational wind facility in Peru and supplying 100% renewable electricity to the Quellaveco copper mine. The company also initiated construction on the 140.8 MW Hanaqpampa solar project in Moquegua, integrated with a 15 MW battery energy storage system. To finance its energy transition and capital expenditure roadmap, the company secured significant sustainability-linked financing, including a credit package of up to USD 600 million from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and USD 300 million from IDB Invest, dedicated to funding solar and storage capacity additions, refinancing the acquisition of the Duna and Huambos wind farms, and advancing toward long-term carbon neutrality goals.
