- Inversiones Portuarias Chancay SAA is a Peru-based investment holding company primarily engaged in the development, administration, operation, and management of maritime port and logistics infrastructure. The company holds a 40 percent equity ownership interest in Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Peru SA, a joint venture with Hong Kong-based Cosco Shipping Ports Limited holding the remaining 60 percent, which develops and operates the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal located approximately 80 kilometers north of Lima. Through its operating joint venture, the company provides comprehensive port and supply chain services categorized into: container handling and terminal operations, including full container load (FCL) stevedoring, empty container storage, reefer container monitoring, and container freight station (CFS) cargo consolidation and deconsolidation; multipurpose and bulk cargo services, including the reception, unloading, and storage of non-mineral dry bulk, liquid bulk, breakbulk, and oversized project cargo; rolling cargo (Ro-Ro) handling, comprising automotive transshipment, multi-tier vehicle warehousing, pre-delivery inspection (PDI), and vehicle distribution logistics; integrated warehousing and logistics park facilities, offering bonded warehousing, customs clearance support, value-added packaging, and container stuffing; and multimodal connectivity and transshipment infrastructure, utilizing an automated deep-water terminal and a dedicated 1.8-kilometer vehicular tunnel connecting directly to the Pan-American Highway to facilitate international maritime freight traffic across South America and transpacific shipping lanes connecting to the Asia-Pacific region.
Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Santiago de Surco, Lima, Peru, Inversiones Portuarias Chancay SAA was formed through a corporate spin-off from Peruvian mining company Volcan Compania Minera SAA in late 2023, formalizing the complete legal and operational separation of Volcan mining operations from its port infrastructure assets. In March 2024, the company officially listed its Class A voting common shares (IPCHAC1) and Class B non-voting dividend-priority shares (IPCHBC1) on the Bolsa de Valores de Lima (BVL). The company achieved a major strategic operational milestone with the official completion and inauguration of Phase 1 of the Chancay Multipurpose Megaport Terminal in November 2024 during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru. Initial port infrastructure encompasses four deep-water berths, including two dedicated container berths and two multipurpose berths, designed for an annual throughput capacity of 1.0 million TEUs, 6.0 million metric tons of bulk cargo, and 160,000 vehicles. Operational launches established direct shipping routes between Chancay and Shanghai, shortening South American Pacific maritime transit times to Asia to approximately 23 days, while developing feeder maritime alliances and logistics networks spanning Peru, Chile, Ecuador, and Colombia.
