Business
Minsur S.A. is a Peru-based mining and metallurgical company engaged in the exploration, extraction, processing, smelting, refining, and commercialization of non-ferrous and precious mineral resources, operating as one of the world's leading producers of refined tin. Founded in 1977 and headquartered in Lima, Peru, the company operates as the mining division of Peruvian conglomerate Grupo Breca. Minsur organizes its core product portfolio and metallurgical offerings into refined tin ingots and specialty tin derivatives of 99.9% purity; high-grade copper cathodes produced via solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW); copper concentrates derived from open-pit deposits; gold doré bars and refined gold bullion; high-purity ferroniobium-tantalum alloys; and niobium oxide and tantalum oxide concentrates. The company operates fully integrated extraction, concentration, and refining assets across Peru and Brazil. Its domestic portfolio includes the San Rafael underground tin mine and the B2 tailings treatment plant located in the Puno region; the Pisco tin smelting and refining facility in the Ica region; and the Pucamarca open-pit gold mine located in the Tacna region. In the copper segment, Minsur holds a controlling 60% ownership interest in Marcobre S.A.C., which operates the Mina Justa copper deposit in the Ica region. In Brazil, through its subsidiary Mineração Taboca S.A., the company operates the Pitinga polymetallic mine in the state of Amazonas and the Pirapora metallurgical plant in the state of São Paulo, focusing on the production of tin, niobium, and tantalum derivatives. In recent developments, Minsur has advanced significant strategic expansion and operational optimization programs, including the development and regulatory progression of the Mina Justa Underground project to unlock deeper high-grade copper resources and extend mine life. The company has executed continuous operational improvement programs at the San Rafael and B2 processing plants to sustain tin production levels and extend tailings reprocessing cycles. Furthermore, Minsur has executed corporate restructuring and recovery enhancement initiatives at its Brazilian subsidiary Mineração Taboca to improve metallurgical yields in ferroalloy processing, while securing long-term power purchase agreements to transition its major production and refining facilities to certified renewable energy sources.
