Business
Industries Chimiques du Fluor (ICF) is a Tunisia-based chemical manufacturing company that specializes in the production and global distribution of inorganic fluorine chemicals and industrial mineral derivatives for the primary metallurgy and building materials sectors. Founded in 1971 and headquartered in Tunis, Tunisia, with integrated production facilities located in the industrial zone of Ghannouche in Gabes, the company offers a core product and service portfolio comprising: high-density anhydrous aluminum fluoride (AlF3) with an annual production capacity of approximately 42,000 metric tons, serving as a critical electrolyte flux additive in Hall-Heroult reduction cells to lower bath temperatures and optimize energy consumption during primary aluminum smelting; synthetic calcium sulfate (anhydrite, CaSO4) with an annual capacity of approximately 100,000 metric tons, produced as an industrial co-product and supplied as a setting retarder in Portland cement manufacturing, self-leveling floor screeds, and agricultural conditioning; and specialized dry bulk chemical handling, packaging, and maritime logistics services from regional export terminals. ICF primarily caters to international primary aluminum producers and regional cement manufacturers, exporting nearly all of its aluminum fluoride output to markets across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The company is backed by key institutional shareholders including the Arab Mining Company (ARMICO) and holds minority strategic investment stakes in banking, chemical storage, maritime mooring, and industrial construction enterprises. In recent operational and strategic developments, ICF has progressed major capital modernization programs, including the structural replacement and technical rehabilitation of rotary kiln components at its Gabes plant to reinforce operating continuity, while initiating energy transition initiatives centered on photovoltaic solar deployment, water conservation systems, and carbon accounting protocols designed to comply with the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) export requirements and counteract international maritime supply disruptions in sulfur and mineral raw material procurement.
