Business
BW Energy Limited (BWEFF) is a Bermuda-domiciled, growth-focused exploration and production company engaged in the acquisition, development, and production of proven offshore oil and natural gas fields. The company operates a diversified portfolio of assets, including a 73.5% interest in the producing Dussafu Marin Permit offshore Gabon with fields such as Tortue, Ruche, West Tortue, East Tortue, and Bourdon; 100% interest in the Golfinho and Camarupim fields; a 76.5% interest in the BM-ES-23 block; a 95% interest in the Maromba field; and a 95% interest in the Kudu field offshore Namibia, all primarily operated by BW Energy. It leverages in-house expertise in reservoir management, geosciences, drilling, completions, production engineering, field operations, and FPSO integration, alongside repurposed infrastructure from affiliate BW Offshore, to deliver low-cost, phased developments targeting quick first oil and cash flow. Founded in 2016 as the exploration and production arm of BW Offshore and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange in February 2020, BW Energy is headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, and maintains representation across major oil and gas regions in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe, with a subsidiary of BW Group Limited holding a 74% ownership stake. The company targets offshore hydrocarbon reservoirs with upside potential, serving global energy markets through efficient extraction and sustainable operations. Total net 2P+2C reserves and resources stood at 580 million barrels of oil equivalent at the start of 2024. Recent developments include the final investment decision (FID) on the transformative Maromba project in Brazil, set to drive industry-leading production growth toward 90,000 barrels per day by 2028; FID on the Golfinho Boost project, incorporating subsea upgrades with Electrical Submersible Pumps, well reopenings, and FPSO enhancements to boost recoverable reserves by approximately 12 million barrels and reduce operating expenses; and progression toward FID on the Bourdon development in Gabon following the MaBoMo model, with four additional production wells planned. In 2025, BW Energy reported strong third-quarter operational performance with high uptime, successful completion of the Kharas-1A appraisal well in Namibia's Kudu field, and acquisition of a jack-up rig for conversion into a wellhead and drilling platform for Brazilian assets. Strategically, it completed acquisitions of shares in Reconnaissance Energy Africa in 2024, alongside a farmout agreement via subsidiary BW Energy Rundu Limited and a follow-on C$2 million equity investment in 2025, increasing its stake to approximately 7.6% and deepening partnerships in Namibia.
