Prior to the acquisition, Cavium expanded through strategic purchases including Xpliant in 2014 for SDN switching technology, QLogic in 2016 for ethernet and storage expertise, and earlier deals like MontaVista Software, Celestial Semiconductor and Wavesat Telecommunications. The company, formerly Cavium Networks, changed its name to Cavium, Inc. in June 2011.
