Business
Cincinnati Bell Inc. provides integrated telecommunications and technology services primarily in the United States. The company operates through two main segments: Entertainment and Communications, and IT Services and Hardware. Its Entertainment and Communications segment offers a broad portfolio of products including high-speed internet access via fiber-optic and copper networks; digital subscriber lines; ethernet; SONET; dedicated internet access; wavelength services; digital signal and indefeasible right of use (IRU) products; video services through fiber networks with entertainment and high-definition channels; traditional and fiber voice lines; switched access; digital trunking; and consumer long-distance calling. The IT Services and Hardware segment delivers end-to-end solutions, including consulting services with IT staffing and project engagements, engineering and installation of voice and IT infrastructure, development of digital applications, hosted converged IP communications platforms, cloud services such as virtual data centers, storage, backup, disaster recovery, cloud computing, and cloud consulting, along with sales and installation of telecommunications and IT infrastructure equipment. Cincinnati Bell was founded in 1873 and is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company serves residential and business customers chiefly in the Greater Cincinnati, Dayton, Ohio area, as well as in Kentucky, Indiana, and Hawaii under the Hawaiian Telcom brand. Enterprise customers across the United States and Canada rely on its wholly owned subsidiaries CBTS and OnX for scalable office communications systems and comprehensive IT solutions. Recent major changes include the completion of Cincinnati Bell's acquisition by Macquarie Infrastructure Partners V in a $2.9 billion transaction finalized in 2021. This acquisition has accelerated the company’s fiber network build-out across its operating regions including Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Hawaii while supporting strategic investments to enhance its IT services platform across North America. Subsequently, in 2022 Cincinnati Bell began operating under the "altafiber" brand in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana to reflect its fiber network expansion beyond the traditional Cincinnati footprint. The company has invested over $1 billion into its fiber infrastructure and plans to provide fiber-to-the-premises connectivity to 100 percent of home and business addresses in its Greater Cincinnati service area within five years. The altafiber brand coexists with the Hawaiian Telcom and CBTS brands, the latter continuing the IT services business. Overall, Cincinnati Bell delivers a diversified suite of telecommunications and technology services including fiber and copper-based high-speed internet, video, voice, cloud, consulting, and IT infrastructure solutions, supported by recent strategic investment and network expansion initiatives designed to position it as a leading fiber-based communications provider in its markets.
