Business
Chicago Bridge & Iron Company N.V. (CB&I) operates as a leading global designer, engineer, and builder of storage facilities, tanks, and terminals for energy infrastructure, industrial, water, and wastewater markets. The company provides engineering, procurement, and construction services for bulk liquid storage solutions, including atmospheric and refrigerated storage tanks, low-temperature and cryogenic storage for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other gases, high-pressure storage vessels, water storage tanks and reservoirs, full containment LNG tanks, and associated systems such as piping modules and steel plate structures; it serves sectors including oil and gas, petrochemicals, power generation, mining, and utilities with capabilities in field-erected tanks, project management from concept to commissioning, maintenance services, and innovative technologies for seismic resilience and liquid hydrogen storage. CB&I maintains strategically located operations and facilities worldwide, with over 60,000 structures completed across more than 100 countries, and is headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, where it relocated its global headquarters in 2025. Founded in 1889, CB&I evolved from bridge construction to its current specialization in storage infrastructure, previously traded under the ticker CBI on the NYSE before delisting following its 2018 merger with McDermott International, Inc., in which CB&I's technology and storage businesses were integrated. In September 2024, McDermott divested its CB&I storage business to a consortium of investors led by Mason Capital Management for approximately $475 million, positioning CB&I as an independent entity focused on tank building and storage solutions. Recent major developments include substantial contracts awarded in 2025, such as a lump-sum EPC contract valued between $250 million and $500 million by TJN Ruwais JV for two cryogenic tanks at the Ruwais LNG project in Abu Dhabi, UAE; a large contract by Lithium Nevada LLC for the Thacker Pass lithium project; and a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai Engineering & Construction to explore nuclear power development projects in the United States. Additionally, CB&I demonstrated the first commercial-scale liquid hydrogen storage tank design with Shell for international trade applications.
