Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Brentford, London, England, the company provides premium viewing experiences through formats such as 2D, 3D, 4DX, IMAX with Laser, Superscreen, ScreenX, and VIP seating; generates revenue from ticket sales, concessions including food and beverages, merchandise, screen advertising, retail partnerships, property leasing, ticket booking services, and film distribution activities; and maintains approximately 9,139 screens across 747 sites in 10 countries as the world's second-largest cinema operator by screen count. In recent developments, Cineworld emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2023 after restructuring $4.53 billion in debt through lender equity conversions, $800 million in new equity, and $1.71 billion in fresh debt financing; adopted the Regal Cineworld Group name and secured a $1.9 billion debt facility in December 2024; completed a term loan repricing in July 2025 reducing interest costs by $14 million annually; closed multiple underperforming UK sites including Glasgow Parkhead, Bedford, Hinckley, Loughborough, Yate, Swindon Regent Circus, Castleford, Leigh, Northampton, Middlesbrough, Poole, and Weymouth as part of UK restructuring plans sanctioned in September 2024; and entered a global partnership with Barco in January 2025 for advanced laser projection technology installations.
