Business
Cineworld Group plc operates multiplex cinemas exhibiting films to the general public worldwide. The company offers admissions to feature films, screen advertising, concessions including popcorn and beverages, premium viewing formats such as IMAX and 4DX, and venue rentals for corporate and private events; it also provides loyalty programs and premium seating options under brands including Cineworld, Regal, Picturehouse, Cinema City, Yes Planet, and Rav-Chen. Cineworld Group plc serves broad demographics through its network of approximately 9,000 screens across 750 sites in 10 countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, and Israel. Founded in 1995 and headquartered at Vantage London, Great West Road, Brentford, England, the company emerged from U.S. Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in 2023 via a lender-led recapitalization that reduced its debt burden and transitioned ownership to creditors under a new entity. In September 2024, a UK High Court approved restructuring plans for four UK subsidiaries, securing £16 million in new equity funding plus up to £35 million for capital expenditures, renegotiating leases at over 100 sites, compromising intercompany debts for equity warrants, and closing five unviable locations to address post-pandemic challenges including strikes and rising costs.
