Business
CommunityOne Bancorp, once trading under the ticker COB, functioned as a bank holding company primarily based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Established originally in 1907 as the First National Bank of Asheboro, the institution cultivated a strong regional presence over many decades through various expansions and name changes, ultimately becoming CommunityOne Bancorp in 2013. Prior to its acquisition, the company offered a comprehensive suite of financial services, catering to individuals, small businesses, and middle-market enterprises across central, southern, and western North Carolina. Its product offerings included consumer, mortgage, and business banking solutions such as diverse loan products, deposit accounts, treasury management services, as well as online and mobile banking platforms. CommunityOne Bancorp also provided wealth management and trust services, positioning itself as a full-service community financial partner. A significant event in the company's history was its 2011 acquisition of Bank of Granite, which was supported by substantial capital infusions from investors including The Carlyle Group and Oak Hill Capital Partners. However, the company's independent operations concluded when it was acquired by Capital Bank Financial Corp. for approximately $350 million. This merger, finalized on October 26, 2016, integrated CommunityOne Bank, N.A., into Capital Bank Corporation, leading to the rebranding of its branch network under the Capital Bank name. As a result, CommunityOne Bancorp ceased to operate as a separate publicly traded entity.
