Business
Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE: COG), an independent exploration and production company, focuses on the development, exploitation and exploration of oil and natural gas properties, primarily producing dry natural gas for heating, electricity generation and feedstock uses; it operates natural gas-weighted assets including the Appalachian Basin with emphasis on Marcellus Shale dry gas, Gulf Coast regions in south and east Texas and north Louisiana, Rocky Mountains, Anadarko Basin and deep gas basins in Western Canada. The company maintains field offices in Texas, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, with regional operations in Houston, Texas; Charleston, West Virginia; Denver, Colorado; and Calgary, Alberta, targeting utilities, industrial customers and end users through flexible pricing and transportation systems. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, Cabot underwent a transformative all-stock merger of equals with Cimarex Energy Co. in October 2021, creating Coterra Energy Inc. (NYSE: CTRA), a diversified premier energy company with expanded operations in the Permian Basin (Texas and New Mexico for oil and liquids), Marcellus Shale (northeast Pennsylvania for natural gas), and Anadarko Basin (Oklahoma for oil, gas and NGLs); recent strategic moves include a long-term LNG-indexed natural gas supply agreement with Vitol Inc. in October 2024 for 100,000 MMBtu/d starting 2027, and accretive Permian Basin acquisitions from Franklin Mountain Energy and Avant Natural Resources for $3.95 billion in cash and stock, completed in January 2025 to enhance oil volumes and core areas in New Mexico.
