Business
Coinbase Global, Inc. operates a technology and financial-services platform for the cryptoeconomy, providing retail users, institutions, developers and businesses with services to buy, sell, trade, transfer, store and use digital assets and related financial products. The Company’s principal operating subsidiary, Coinbase, Inc., was founded in 2012 and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Coinbase Global, Inc. following a 2014 corporate reorganization. Coinbase Global is a remote-first organization and does not maintain a corporate headquarters; it uses One Madison Avenue, Suite 2400, New York, New York, as its SEC correspondence address. In December 2025, the Company converted to a Texas corporation. Its consumer platform includes cryptocurrency spot trading; digital-asset custody and wallet services; staking and blockchain validation services; Coinbase One subscription plans; USDC stablecoin-related products; crypto rewards and payments capabilities; Coinbase Card and other spending products; educational and onchain applications; perpetual-style futures and other derivatives; prediction markets; and equities trading for eligible U.S. retail customers through Coinbase Capital Markets Corporation, an SEC-registered broker-dealer and FINRA member acting as an introducing broker with a carrying-broker partner. The Company also develops products intended to enable tokenized-asset trading, decentralized-finance access, onchain capital formation, stablecoin issuance and payment infrastructure, and agentic-finance use cases, including Coinbase for Agents and the x402 payment protocol. Coinbase serves institutional clients through Coinbase Prime, a full-service prime-brokerage platform offering trading execution, liquidity access across a network of venues, custody, financing-related and operational services, staking, and reporting capabilities. Its institutional and developer offerings also include Coinbase Exchange, Coinbase International Exchange, Coinbase Derivatives Exchange, Coinbase Asset Management, Coinbase Cloud infrastructure, Base, an Ethereum Layer-2 network and associated developer ecosystem, and ventures and capital-market capabilities. The Company generates revenue principally from transaction fees and spreads, subscription and services revenue, stablecoin-related income, blockchain rewards, interest income and institutional services. It operates internationally, including in the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, India, Brazil and Australia. Recent strategic initiatives focus on building an “Everything Exchange” spanning cryptocurrency, derivatives, equities, tokenized assets and event contracts; expanding global stablecoin and payments use cases; and moving trading, payments and financial applications onchain. During 2025, Coinbase agreed to acquire derivatives exchange Deribit for approximately $2.9 billion, acquired investment-platform operator Echo in a transaction valued at approximately $375 million, and announced the acquisition of prediction-markets startup The Clearing Company, its tenth acquisition of that year. The Company launched a prediction-markets platform, expanded into retail equities trading, introduced U.S. perpetual-style futures and other trading features, and continued integrating Deribit and Echo to broaden derivatives and onchain capital-raising capabilities. In 2026, Coinbase expanded its India operations through a local entity and direct Indian-rupee deposits, enabled U.S. customer access to global perpetuals liquidity through a CFTC-regulated pathway, expanded regulated crypto derivatives and Webull-related crypto trading and custody access in Canada, and supported a Coinbase-powered, crypto-backed conforming mortgage offering with Better Home & Finance. The Company also selected Chainlink as oracle infrastructure for tokenized stocks and continues to pursue regulated expansion in custody, derivatives, tokenization, stablecoins, payments and onchain financial infrastructure.
