Business
Costco Wholesale Corporation (Nasdaq: COST) operates an international chain of membership warehouses that offer quality brand-name merchandise, Kirkland Signature private-label products and ancillary services at low prices to businesses and individuals. Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Issaquah, Washington, the company maintains approximately 914 warehouses across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Spain, Taiwan, Iceland, Korea, Sweden and other international markets; its product assortment encompasses groceries, fresh produce, meat and poultry, bakery items, sundries, candy, coolers, freezers, deli, liquor, tobacco, appliances, electronics including televisions and computers, television and media, automotive supplies, tires, toys, hardware, sporting goods, jewelry, watches, cameras, books, housewares, apparel, health and beauty aids, furniture, office supplies, office equipment, seasonal merchandise and non-foods such as luggage, detergent, juice, cookies and coffee. Membership tiers comprise Gold Star for personal use, Business for resale and operations, and Executive with additional rewards and services including auto insurance, check printing, identity protection, payment processing, bottled water delivery and a 2% annual reward on qualified purchases; ancillary offerings feature self-service gasoline stations, pharmacies, optical and hearing aid centers, tire installation, travel packages via Costco Travel, financial products such as the Costco Visa card, same-day delivery partnerships with Instacart, Uber Eats and DoorDash, business center delivery and manufacturing divisions under Costco Wholesale Industries for food packaging, optical labs, meat processing and jewelry distribution. In fiscal year 2025, which ended August 31, 2025, Costco opened 27 new warehouses including 24 net additions such as its 20th location in Korea and second in Sweden, reported net sales growth exceeding 8%, digitally enabled sales surpassing $27 billion and capital expenditures nearing $5.5 billion to support accelerated expansion, remodels, land for future depots, hot dog production facilities and a new coffee roasting plant; the company plans 35 warehouse openings in fiscal 2026 including five relocations for 30 net new sites, alongside e-commerce enhancements like improved search, passwordless mobile sign-in, bot-resistant waiting rooms for high-demand items, in-line checkout scanning and expanded pharmacy access to GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy without insurance.
