Business
Crescent Point Energy Corp. (CPG) is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company that acquires, develops and holds interests in petroleum and natural gas properties, primarily focusing on light and medium crude oil, natural gas liquids and natural gas from assets in Western Canada including the Alberta Montney, Kaybob Duvernay, Viewfield Bakken, Shaunavon and Flat Lake formations in central Alberta, southeast and southwest Saskatchewan; the company employs advanced horizontal drilling and multi-stage fracturing techniques to optimize production efficiency across its multi-basin portfolio of high-netback, liquids-rich assets characterized by low declines and attractive royalty rates. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Crescent Point operates through wholly-owned subsidiaries and generates revenue mainly from oil and gas sales to various customer types in North American markets. In recent major changes, the company completed the strategic acquisition of Hammerhead Energy Inc. in December 2023 for $2.55 billion to consolidate its Alberta Montney position, enhancing its five-year production outlook to approximately 260,000 boe/d by 2028; sold non-core Saskatchewan assets including Flat Lake and Battrum to Saturn Oil & Gas in May 2024 for C$600 million to reduce debt and sharpen focus on core resource plays; rebranded to Veren Inc. in March 2024 to reflect its transformed portfolio and strategy under President and CEO Craig Bryksa; and was acquired by Whitecap Resources in May 2025 for $15 billion, integrating its operations into a larger entity producing over 190,000 boe/d predominantly light oil.
