Elpitiya Plantations PLC is a Sri Lanka-based regional plantation company primarily engaged in the cultivation, processing, manufacturing, and marketing of traditional agricultural commodities, specialty crops, and value-added consumer products, alongside the generation of commercial renewable energy and the development of eco-tourism ventures. Founded in 1992 and headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the company operates as an associate of Aitken Spence PLC, managing over 8,800 hectares of land across 13 estates situated in the up-country, mid-country, and low-country agro-ecological zones of Sri Lanka. The company organizes its business activities into traditional agriculture, diversified specialty farming, direct retail and value addition, clean power generation, and leisure. Its comprehensive portfolio of products and services comprises: black tea in orthodox and CTC grades, artisanal teas, and premium single-estate specialty teas; raw natural rubber latex and crepe rubber; fresh fruit bunches cultivated for palm oil extraction and processed via its joint venture, AEN Palm Oil Processing (Private) Limited; fresh commercial berries, including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries marketed under the Berry Much brand; exotic and tropical fruits, including passion fruit, soursop, avocado, dragon fruit, and jackfruit; spices and plantation crops, including True Ceylon Cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, vanilla, and coconut; natural food products, including pure bee honey and Kithul treacle; value-added processed food items, including fruit jams, juices, and frozen berries; physical and digital retail distribution of consumer goods through the Harrow House retail brand and the HarrowHouse.lk e-commerce platform; run-of-the-river mini-hydroelectric power generation managed through EPP Hydro Power Company (Private) Limited; commercial rooftop solar photovoltaic power generation; utility-scale ground-mounted solar energy generation; and plantation heritage bungalow hospitality, eco-tourism, and recreational park development through subsidiaries including Escape Parks Ceylon (Private) Limited and Water Villas (Private) Limited. In recent strategic developments, Elpitiya Plantations PLC has accelerated its transformation from a conventional commodity producer into a diversified agribusiness and clean energy conglomerate. The company has significantly expanded its protected agriculture footprint by commissioning new high-tech polytunnel facilities to scale up commercial berry production under the Berry Much brand, achieving substantial revenue growth in high-value fruit cultivation. To broaden its direct-to-consumer and export reach, the company launched its dedicated online retail platform, HarrowHouse.lk, while establishing a retail presence for its specialty teas, spices, and processed food products in regional export markets, including India. In sustainability and power generation, the company attained 100 percent rooftop solar coverage across all its manufacturing tea factories and advanced its utility-scale renewable footprint through the development of the 5-megawatt Kalkudah ground solar project in Batticaloa, bringing its total renewable energy capacity to over 4,100 kilowatts. Additionally, the company continues the phased development of an adventure theme park in the Galle district under the ESCAPE brand through its partnership with Singapore-listed Sim Leisure Group Ltd, reinforcing its strategic diversification into agro-tourism and destination leisure.
