Business
Sunshine Holdings PLC is a diversified conglomerate based in Sri Lanka that operates primarily across the healthcare, consumer goods, and agribusiness sectors. Founded in 1967 and headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the company manages an integrated portfolio of businesses serving both domestic and international markets. The company conducts its operations through three primary business divisions: Healthcare, Consumer Goods, and Agribusiness. Within its Healthcare segment, the company engages in the import, warehousing, marketing, and island-wide distribution of prescription pharmaceuticals, generic medicines, biologicals, medical diagnostic equipment, surgical devices, and over-the-counter wellness products; the research, formulation, and manufacturing of specialized respiratory therapeutics, dry-powder inhalers (DPIs), metered-dose inhalers (MDIs), and oral solid dosage formulations through Lina Manufacturing; and the operation of a chain of retail wellness and pharmaceutical stores under the Healthguard banner. In its Consumer Goods division, the company specializes in the sourcing, blending, packaging, and marketing of branded tea products under labels including Watawala, Zesta, and Ran Kahata; the manufacture and commercial distribution of confectionery lines, sweets, toffees, and chocolates under the Daintee brand; and the export of value-added Ceylon teas and culinary items to global destinations. Through its Agribusiness segment, primarily managed via Watawala Plantations PLC, the group engages in the sustainable cultivation and processing of oil palm, crude palm oil extraction under Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification standards, commercial dairy farming, and the management of agricultural estates. In recent strategic developments, Sunshine Holdings PLC has executed structural realignments and strategic partnerships to strengthen its core operational verticals. The group entered into a 50:50 joint venture with India-based Zydus Lifesciences Limited to establish Zydus Sunshine Lifesciences (Private) Limited, dedicated to developing a certified pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the Horana Export Processing Zone. Furthermore, the company acquired a controlling 75% effective equity stake in Joint Agri Products Ceylon (Private) Limited (JAPC), significantly expanding its export-oriented processing footprint in organic spices, coconut-based products, and specialty teas. To optimize corporate structure and eliminate operational redundancies, the company completed the amalgamations of Sunshine Packaging Lanka Limited and Lina Spiro (Private) Limited into parent and subsidiary holdings, alongside internal share reorganizations across its healthcare and consumer subsidiaries.
