Business
Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) PLC is a Sri Lanka-based manufacturer and distributor of cement, concrete, and specialized cementitious building materials. Founded in 1982 as a joint venture with Japan's Mitsui Mining Company (now Nippon Coke & Engineering Co., Ltd.) and headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the company operates integrated cement grinding complexes, maritime bulk terminals, and manufacturing facilities located primarily in Trincomalee, supported by a distribution network and ready-mix batching plants island-wide. The company operates through core segments encompassing Cement Manufacturing, Concrete Solutions, and Value-Added Dry Mortar Products, alongside captive renewable energy generation. Its product and service portfolio includes hydraulic and blended cements marketed under brand names such as Tokyo Super, Nippon Cement, Nippon Cement Pro, Tokyo Super Blended, and Atlas Cement; ready-mixed concrete solutions marketed under the Tokyo Supermix brand for civil engineering, commercial high-rise, and residential infrastructure; value-added dry-mix cementitious products comprising Tokyo Superseal waterproofing slurries, Tokyo Supercast tile adhesives and tile grouts, Tokyo Superflow self-leveling flooring compounds, Tokyo Superwall skim coats and external plasters, and lightweight masonry mortars; cellular lightweight concrete blocks and precast building elements; and logistics services via proprietary bulk cement vessels and bulk distribution terminals. In addition, the company operates biomass-fueled dendro power plants that supply captive green electricity to its manufacturing operations and feed surplus energy to the national grid. In recent developments, Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) PLC expanded its total production capacity at its Trincomalee factory complex to over 3 million metric tons per annum through the installation of high-efficiency grinding mills and automated packing systems. The company has also introduced eco-friendly, low-carbon blended cement formulations and expanded its dry-mortar product line to address sustainable construction standards. To mitigate domestic energy market fluctuations and advance decarbonization targets, the company has further increased capital investments in captive agricultural biomass energy and industrial rooftop solar PV installations across its manufacturing facilities.
