SONASID SA (Société Nationale de Sidérurgie) is a Morocco-based industrial company primarily engaged in the manufacturing, processing, and distribution of long steel products and reinforcement solutions for the construction, civil engineering, and manufacturing sectors. Founded in 1974 and headquartered in Casablanca, Morocco, the company operates as a joint venture co-controlled by ArcelorMittal and the pan-African investment fund Al Mada through Nouvelles Sidérurgies Industrielles (NSI). SONASID's comprehensive product and service portfolio includes: reinforcing steel bars (rebar) in various grades and formats, including high-ductility seismic-resistant bars for structural concrete; hot-rolled wire rods utilized in industrial wire drawing, electrowelded mesh, fasteners, and cable production; steel fibers for structural concrete reinforcement marketed under the Innova brand; industrial steel billets produced via electric arc furnace (EAF) recycling of scrap metal; and customized cut, bend, and prefabricated reinforcement solutions provided through its specialized subsidiary, Longometal Armatures. The company operates major industrial assets in Morocco, including an electric steelmaking plant and rolling mill in Jorf Lasfar, as well as rolling and specialty manufacturing facilities in Nador. In recent strategic and operational developments, SONASID has transitioned its production footprint toward sustainable green steel by powering more than 85 percent of its industrial operations with renewable wind energy under long-term power purchase agreements, significantly lowering the carbon footprint of its products. Furthermore, the company recently commissioned a dedicated steel fiber production line at its Nador industrial complex in technical partnership with ArcelorMittal to displace imports and address domestic tunneling and flooring infrastructure demand, while expanding its local scrap metal recovery network to secure raw material supply and advance circular economy integration.
