Business
Canso Select Opportunities Corporation is a Canada-based investment holding company that invests for long-term capital growth and dividend income through a portfolio of public and private equity securities, debt instruments and other financial assets. The Company’s principal holding is a 70,000-share Class A interest in Lysander Funds Limited, a Canadian investment fund manager, complemented by publicly traded common and preferred shares, corporate bonds, government treasury bills, convertible securities, private-equity investments, private preferred shares, warrants and private debt investments. Its public-equity and fixed-income portfolio has included holdings in companies such as Quebecor Inc., Bird Construction Inc., MDA Space Ltd., Cineplex Inc., Manulife Financial Corp., Air Canada, Yellow Pages Ltd., BCE Inc., Enbridge Inc., GoPro Inc., Match Group Inc., Hertz Global Holdings Inc. and other Canadian and international issuers; its private-investment portfolio includes investments in New Horizon Aircraft Ltd., Reformulary Group Inc., HashTag Paid Inc., Smooth Payment Inc., Fibracast, Palmer Energy Technology Ltd. and Portfolio HiWay Inc. The Company primarily invests in North American opportunities, while retaining discretion to invest globally, and evaluates investments based on the potential for capital appreciation, investment income and realization of value from existing holdings. Canso Select Opportunities Corporation was incorporated on February 16, 2018, and is headquartered in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Its Class A Multiple Voting Shares and Class B Subordinate Voting Shares trade on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbols CSOC.A and CSOC.B, respectively. Canso Investment Counsel Ltd. provides day-to-day operational services under an operational services agreement, and the Company qualifies as an investment entity under IFRS, measuring investments at fair value through profit or loss. The Company previously held Canso Select Opportunities Fund as a wholly owned investment vehicle following a 2018 plan of arrangement; in May 2026, it terminated and wound up the Fund after determining that the tax benefits associated with maintaining the trust had diminished, with the Fund’s remaining assets and liabilities distributed to Canso Select Opportunities Corporation as sole unitholder. During the first quarter of 2026, the Company initiated a new public-equity position in Ubisoft Entertainment, funded in part through Canadian Treasury bill proceeds, while its core Lysander holding paid regular and special dividends and increased its regular quarterly dividend rate to $7.50 per share after quarter-end.
