- FT Vest Bitcoin Strategy & Target Income ETF (DFII) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to deliver partial participation in the returns of bitcoin while providing a high level of current income through a target outcome strategy. The fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in instruments providing exposure to bitcoin or income-producing investments, including call and put options (standardized listed options, FLEX Options, and over-the-counter options) referencing Bitcoin Exposure Instruments such as Bitcoin exchange-traded products (ETPs) like iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF, Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, Bitwise Bitcoin ETF, and ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF, as well as Bitcoin ETP Indexes including the Cboe Bitcoin U.S. ETF Index and Cboe Mini Bitcoin U.S. ETF Index; short-term U.S. Treasury securities; cash and cash equivalents; and box spreads. It employs a partial covered call strategy by selling at-the-money call options with expirations of less than 30 days to generate premiums targeting annual income approximately 15% above the yield of one-month U.S. Treasury securities before fees and expenses, while purchased call options provide upside exposure and sold put options provide downside exposure to bitcoin price returns, with options typically rolled every year or less; the fund does not invest directly in bitcoin. Launched in April 2025 and listed on NYSE Arca, DFII represents First Trust Advisors L.P.'s entry into bitcoin strategy ETFs, introduced alongside the FT Vest Bitcoin Strategy Floor15 ETF - April (BFAP) as part of its Target Outcome ETFs suite. First Trust serves as investment adviser with offices in Wheaton, Illinois, while sub-adviser Vest Financial LLC, creator of Target Outcome Investments, manages the portfolio under portfolio managers Karan Sood and Trevor Lack. The fund, a series of First Trust Exchange-Traded Fund, targets investors seeking cryptocurrency-linked exposure with income generation amid bitcoin's volatility, concentrating primarily on long bitcoin and short U.S. dollar positions via derivatives.
