Business
Dicerna Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (DRNA) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of ribonucleic acid interference (RNAi)-based therapeutics using its proprietary GalXC RNAi platform. The company leverages GalXC technology to silence disease-causing genes in the liver and other tissues for rare, cardiometabolic, viral, chronic liver and complement-mediated diseases; neurodegenerative diseases; pain; and oncology. Core product candidates include nedosiran for primary hyperoxaluria; RG6346 for chronic hepatitis B virus infection; belcesiran for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency-associated liver disease; and DCR-AUD for alcohol use disorder, alongside discovery programs such as DCR-PDL1 and DCR-STAT3 for oncology. Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts, Dicerna operates primarily in the United States with facilities in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Boulder, Colorado. Dicerna entered a major strategic collaboration with Novo Nordisk in 2019 to co-develop RNAi therapies targeting over 30 liver cell targets for cardio-metabolic disorders, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, type 2 diabetes and obesity, valued at up to $607 million. In November 2021, Novo Nordisk acquired Dicerna for approximately $3.3 billion, completing the transaction in December 2021 and integrating it as a wholly-owned subsidiary, with Dicerna's common stock delisted from Nasdaq; this acquisition enhances Novo Nordisk's RNAi capabilities across its therapeutic areas, including ongoing pipeline advancement.
