Business
International Leasing and Financial Services Limited is a Bangladesh-based non-bank financial institution that provides a range of financing, investment, and deposit solutions to corporate, institutional, small and medium enterprise (SME), and retail clients. Established in 1996 and headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the company operates across key business segments including lease finance, term lending, deposit mobilization, primary dealership, and capital market services. Its core financing portfolio comprises lease financing for industrial machinery, office equipment, vehicles, power generators, medical equipment, and marine vessels; long-term and short-term corporate loans; SME financing facilities; project finance; syndicated loan facilities; work order financing; bridge loans; and retail credit products, such as home loans, auto financing, and personal loans. The institution accepts term deposits and offers structured deposit schemes, including Term Deposit Receipts (TDR); Monthly Income Receipts (MIR); Quarterly Income Receipts; Double and Triple Benefit Schemes; Deposit Pension Schemes (DPS); and Fast Shanchoy Schemes. In addition, the company operates as a primary dealer licensed by Bangladesh Bank to deal, trade, and underwrite government treasury bills and bonds. Through its key subsidiaries, the institution delivers capital market services: International Leasing Securities Limited provides equity brokerage, margin lending facilities, and central depository participant services on the Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange, while IL Capital Limited provides merchant banking, issue management, underwriting, corporate advisory, and portfolio management services. In recent developments, the company has undergone extensive structural, management, and regulatory changes amid severe financial distress, depleted capital adequacy, and high concentrations of non-performing assets. Following consecutive management reshuffles and an administrative phase under a High Court-reconstituted board of directors, Bangladesh Bank officially designated the company as non-viable in 2026 and initiated formal resolution proceedings under the Bank Resolution Act. Under this regulatory framework, a central-bank-appointed administrator was installed to take charge of corporate governance, oversee comprehensive balance sheet restructuring, safeguard depositor interests, and pursue legal recovery mechanisms for defaulted assets. The company's strategic focus has consequently transitioned from new credit origination to bad-loan recovery, asset liquidation, liability settlement, and regulatory compliance.
