Business
Renata PLC is a Bangladesh-based pharmaceutical and animal health company engaged in the development, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of human pharmaceuticals, veterinary therapeutics, animal nutritional products, and consumer healthcare goods. Originally established in 1972 as Pfizer Laboratories (Bangladesh) Limited before transferring ownership to local shareholders in 1993 and subsequently rebranding from Renata Limited to Renata PLC, the company is headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and maintains primary manufacturing complexes in Mirpur, Rajendrapur, and Bhaluka. The company operates primarily through two core business divisions: Human Pharmaceuticals and Animal Health. Its Human Pharmaceuticals division manufactures and markets prescription and over-the-counter formulations across multiple therapeutic classes, including systemic anti-infectives and antibiotics; cardiovascular agents; central nervous system (CNS) therapies for neurological and psychiatric disorders; gastrointestinal treatments, particularly proton pump inhibitors; antidiabetic and endocrine medications; respiratory and anti-allergic agents; analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs); oncology therapeutics; and vitamins, minerals, and nutritional supplements. Notable commercial brands include Maxpro (esomeprazole), Fexo (fexofenadine), and Rolac (ketorolac). The Animal Health division develops, manufactures, and distributes veterinary pharmaceuticals, nutritional premixes, feed supplements, vaccines, anthelmintics, and therapeutics catering to the poultry, livestock, dairy, and aquaculture industries. In addition, through its consumer-focused subsidiary Purnava Limited, the company markets wellness products and natural dietary supplements, while also supplying micronutrient formulations, zinc dispersible tablets, and oral rehydration solutions to international non-governmental organizations and institutional relief bodies such as UNICEF. Renata PLC distributes its product portfolio across an extensive domestic distribution network in Bangladesh and exports finished pharmaceutical formulations to overseas markets across North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. The company operates international subsidiaries, including Renata (UK) Limited and Renata Pharmaceuticals (Ireland) Limited, to support commercialization and regulatory filings in overseas jurisdictions. In recent corporate and operational developments, the company officially transitioned its corporate name from Renata Limited to Renata PLC following shareholder and regulatory approvals. To support production expansion and working capital requirements, Renata secured substantial foreign currency debt financing, including a long-term loan facility from the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The company has also expanded its footprint in tightly regulated markets, achieving United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) and UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (UK MHRA) regulatory approvals for its Rajendrapur manufacturing facilities, leading to the commercial export and launch of generic solid oral dosage products, such as Metoprolol Tartrate and Terbinafine tablets, into the United States market. Additionally, Renata continues to advance its operational scope through the expansion of its potent compound and oncology manufacturing facilities, development of biosimilar capabilities, and the formation of strategic contract manufacturing and distribution partnerships with international pharmaceutical corporations.
