United Power Generation & Distribution Company Ltd. is an independent power producer and multi-utility service provider that generates, transmits, and distributes electricity, as well as produces commercial steam for industrial and national grid consumers across Bangladesh. The company operates natural gas-fired and heavy fuel oil-fired power plants across strategic industrial corridors and export hubs. Its primary products and services include grid-connected electricity generation for state utilities; dedicated, uninterrupted off-grid power supply and distribution networks for export processing zones; high-efficiency base-load power supply under long-term power purchase agreements; and commercial exhaust heat recovery steam generation utilized in industrial manufacturing processes. The company delivers its utility solutions to industrial manufacturing units within the Dhaka Export Processing Zone and Chittagong Export Processing Zone, as well as to public entities including the Bangladesh Power Development Board and the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board. Its operational asset portfolio includes gas-fired generation facilities at Dhaka EPZ and Chittagong EPZ, alongside major power generation assets located in Anwara, Jamalpur, Ashuganj, and Sylhet.
Founded in 2007 as Malancha Holdings Limited and later renamed in 2009, United Power Generation & Distribution Company Ltd. is headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and operates as a core power-sector subsidiary of United Group. In recent strategic developments, the company finalized a comprehensive corporate amalgamation effective July 1, 2023, following approval from the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Under this court-sanctioned scheme of amalgamation, the company absorbed three of its key operating subsidiaries—United Energy Ltd., United Anwara Power Ltd., and United Jamalpur Power Ltd.—consolidating their generation assets, legal structures, and financial reporting directly under the parent entity. This major reorganization eliminated intermediate holding structures, enhanced operational and tax synergies, optimized administrative and audit expenses, and streamlined asset management across its power generation facilities.
